Safer Space

The principles of a safer space are applied in all activities and events of Skripti ry.

According to the Non-Discrimination Act, no one may be discriminated against on the basis of age, origin, nationality, language, religion, belief, opinion, political activity, trade union activity, family relations, health, disability, sexual orientation, or other personal grounds.

Safer spaces refer to a collective effort to create practices that increase safety. In practice, in safer spaces, the student association and its members strive to take responsibility for difficult situations. Conflicts are addressed instead of just being tolerated.

  1. Be respectful. Do not question another's diversity. Treat sensitive topics with respect.
  2. Give space. Ensure that everyone is heard and included.
  3. Respect everyone's mental and physical integrity.
  4. Respect everyone's right to self-determination and do not make assumptions based on stereotypes.
  5. Do not reproduce racist and discriminatory stereotypes in your speech, actions, or behavior, not even 'as a joke' or 'ironically'.
  6. Do not harass anyone verbally, by touching, or by staring. Saying 'no' means no. Stop or change your behavior if another person asks you to.
  7. If you disagree with someone, try to express it in a constructive and peaceful manner. Focus on the issue, not the person.
  8. If any situation feels uncomfortable, please bring it up, for example by telling the board or a harassment contact person. You can also give feedback about situations afterward and anonymously at skripti.org/palaute.
  9. Intervene if you witness racism, discrimination, harassment, or other inappropriate behavior.

The harassment contact persons for Skripti ry are Julia Andersson, Julia Juntunen, and Joni Myllymäki
